Exploring the use of location to create collective music streaming experiences that promote active listening and a sense of community.
Streaming has allowed us to listen to music anytime, anywhere. At the same time, it has influenced our attitudes and relationships with the music we consume. I believe it is therefore important to challenge the current context and explore new possibilities in how we listen to music.
Today, we can view music experiences like this: where streaming largely takes place individually, while traditional live performances are collective.
My approach has been explorative and opportunity-driven.
Rather than presenting a specific solution, the project delivers multiple possible solutions that instead highlight some concrete values. I wish to view these concepts as tools for further discussion around collective music streaming experiences.

On this page I will present the main delivery, Streamspot. Delivery 2, Oslo Bymusikk, is possible to read about on another page.

PROPOSAL
EXPLORATION
With MVP as a main method for testing and exploring this concept I have divided the process into two phases.

Phase 1 involves exploring the physical experience—that is, listening on location—and phase 2 focuses on the digital platform and interactions.

PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE
The primary purpose of this phase was to gain an understanding of the concept's potential. Furthermore, I wanted to identify emerging needs and experiences that could set further criteria for the physical and digital experience.
"I became aware of the music, in addition to becoming more conscious of the surroundings. It became an interplay."
"It added more value to the streaming because you have a common purpose—sharing an experience together here and now."
DIGITAL INTERACTIONS
In the context of Streamspot, where the experience is hybrid—both physical and digital—it has been important to explore how digital interactions can enhance the physical experience.
Therefore, in this phase, I have explored the interactions that will accompany the service and how these can complement the physical experience.

KEY INSIGHT FROM TESTING
Understanding the dynamics

"I don't want to be on the phone while I'm listening to the music."
Based on both tests, it became clear that the music experience is the goal of the concept, leading to a discussion about the role of the digital aspect.

My observations and insight from the testing has been crucial to understand the dynamics between physical and digital, and ultimately figure out where the digital interactions are relevant and not.

It therefore became important to consider how digital interactions can foster small but meaningful exchanges that can support and add value to the experience, rather than stealing too much attention from the music.

By taking a closer look at the user journey, I noticed that there is an interesting gap between when the user connects to the service and the music starts, and between the end of listening and when the listener disconnects from the service to go home.
Reflection

With this concept, I have sought to challenge today's streaming culture by viewing it in new contexts. Streamspot connects the digital and physical with the sensory and social. By testing the individual experience of each person—what feelings and thoughts it has evoked—the feedback throughout the project has pointed to primary values for achieving a good streaming experience. This shows that viewing streaming as a larger, social medium for music experiences has the potential to promote community and interest in music.

Design Skills and Professionalism
We are impressed when the candidate shows us how she works with sketches and concepts, explores broadly, systematizes and categorizes, and then narrows down to a selection that she further develops through prototyping. Through experimentation and the use of various tools and methods, the candidate develops the project and concept in a very good way. We can see how the learning along the way improves and sharpens the project. The candidate demonstrates good use of methods toward the project's objectives and exhibits excellent craftsmanship in execution.
