PROBLEM AND CONTEXT
Young people are giving up on traditional news
VG, a leading news source in Norway, is facing a significant challenge: a steady decline in younger readers, particularly those under 25. VG is losing the young readers to social media, forcing them to expand to platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. However, this approach is unsustainable, so they aim to draw users back to their app.

H
ow might VG rethink its approach to better connect with and engage the next generation of news consumers?
PROPOSAL
A social shareable news app
One front page
Creating one common front page for all readers can contribute to common referances and a lower threshold for discussing todays news, both digital and verbal.

"Have you seen todays front page?"

With a calender feature, readers are even able to go back in history, easily catching up on yesterdays news if needed.
Columns & mediators

Young readers values mediators. By highlighting the columns section, experienced journalists and content creators who specialize in various topics, are given a place to share.

Readers can pin their favourites to always be updated on most relevant content.

Personalized links

Why is the act of sharing so boring? By adding a personalised greeting it can become a bit more fun to both send and receive a news article.
USER INTERVIEWS
Users are more likely to engage in socially shareable news
CONCEPT & EXPLORATION
How can we introduse shareable elements in the excisting VG app?
ITERATIONS
From testing and discussing both sketches, wireframes and mockups I gathered insight on what iterations to make:

- Go full scale.
Large images on the front page was most interesting
- VGs visual identity and structure above actually following.
The ability to follow journalists and creators was intriguing by many, but there was a doubt on how this might try to compete with social media.

- Highlight VG Direkte
The live update "VG Direkte" was a popular feature
